Humanitarian Ophthalmology Mission Kicks Off in Agadir
On June 9, 2026, the fourth edition of a humanitarian medical-surgical mission specializing in ophthalmology commenced at the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir. This initiative is a collaborative effort organized by the ophthalmology department in partnership with various organizations, including the Moroccan Volunteers Association, the Southern Foundation, the Ad-Diaa Association for Vision Preservation, and the Kremer Eye Center from the United States. The primary goal of this mission is to provide patients with access to specialized and highly precise surgical interventions focusing on critical ophthalmological procedures. These procedures encompass retinal and vitreous surgery, cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, reconstructive surgery of the eyes and eyelids, refractive surgery to correct severe myopia, and corneal transplants.
International Expertise and Patient Care
This year's mission features the involvement of a distinguished group of ophthalmologists and international experts from countries including the United States, Canada, Romania, and the Dominican Republic. Running until June 11, the event is set to facilitate over 200 scheduled surgical interventions for patients in need of specialized care. Apart from providing therapeutic services, this initiative also includes a scientific and training program aimed at ophthalmologists and resident doctors. This program features scientific conferences, practical workshops, and knowledge exchange sessions, thereby contributing to the enhancement of national medical skills and expertise.
According to the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir, this humanitarian mission exemplifies the commitment of all participating partners and institutions to improve access to specialized ophthalmological services. Moreover, it reinforces international medical cooperation and contributes to enhancing visual health and elevating the quality of care for the residents of the Souss-Massa region.
