Bangladesh Calls for Increased Recruitment of Skilled Workers in Morocco
In a significant diplomatic engagement, Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin has urged Morocco to enhance its recruitment of skilled and semi-skilled Bangladeshi workers across various sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, textiles, and information technology. This appeal was made on June 9, 2026, during the presentation of credentials by the newly appointed Moroccan ambassador to Bangladesh, Lalla Boutina El Kerdoudi El Koulali, at the prestigious Bangabhaban presidential palace in Dhaka.
President Shahabuddin emphasized the substantial potential for deepening commercial relations and investment opportunities between Bangladesh and Morocco. He advocated for increased exchanges of visits between government officials and private sector representatives from both nations to strengthen bilateral ties further. Referring to the longstanding relationship between the two countries, he described it as "excellent" and continuously evolving.
The president also reminisced about a historical visit by former Bangladeshi President Ziaur Rahman to Morocco in 1981, expressing gratitude to Moroccan authorities for naming a street in Rabat after him. Additionally, he presented an overview of Bangladesh's human resource development programs, highlighting the progress made in this area. He took the opportunity to thank Morocco for its support in international forums regarding the repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingya individuals from Myanmar, expressing hope for continued assistance in this matter.
In response, the new Moroccan ambassador sought the cooperation of President Shahabuddin as she embarks on her mission in Dhaka, aiming to foster closer ties between the two nations.
