Casablanca Stock Exchange Experiences Decline
The Casablanca Stock Exchange faced a downturn on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, with its main index, the MASI, dropping by 0.34% to close at 17,739.77 points. This decline reflects a broader trend in the market, as the MASI 20, which tracks the 20 most liquid stocks, fell by 0.3% to 1,307.76 points. Similarly, the MASI ESG index, which measures companies with strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) ratings according to Moody's ESG Solutions, decreased by 0.32% to 1,268.86 points. In addition, the MASI Mid and Small Cap index, indicative of small and medium capitalization stocks, saw a reduction of 0.26%, finishing at 1,755.4 points.
Sector Performance and Trading Volume
On the international front, both the FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index and the FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid ended the day lower, with losses of 0.16% to 17,033.75 points and 0.25% to 15,287.02 points, respectively. Sector-wise, notable declines were witnessed in the "Forestry and Paper" (-1.85%), "Insurance" (-1.52%), and "Financial Services and Other Activities" (-1.34%) sectors. Conversely, the "Beverages" sector showed resilience, increasing by 2.51%, along with the "Real Estate Participation and Promotion" sector, which rose by 0.71%, and "Telecommunications" which edged up by 0.33%.
The trading volume exceeded 165.26 million dirhams, with significant activity in the central market for equities, particularly in transactions involving T2S Group Holding (58.75 MDH), Jet Contractors (13.61 MDH), and Itissalat Al-Maghrib (11.97 MDH). The market capitalization hovered around 1.025 trillion dirhams.
On an individual stock level, Wafa Assurance experienced the most significant drop, falling by 2.83% to 5,150 dirhams, followed by Bank of Africa with a decrease of 2.58% to 185.1 dirhams, and Mutandis, which slipped by 2.54% to 226.1 dirhams. In contrast, Zellidja stood out with a remarkable gain of 5.79%, reaching 243 dirhams, while M2M Group and Société des Boissons du Maroc also saw increases of 5.47% to 384 dirhams and 3.24% to 2,168 dirhams, respectively.
