Eleven Suspects Arrested in Morocco Linked to International Drug Trafficking

Significant Drug Trafficking Bust in Morocco

In a coordinated operation, Moroccan authorities successfully apprehended eleven individuals sought by law enforcement agencies in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. This significant crackdown, which took place simultaneously in the cities of Tangier and Marrakech, is part of ongoing efforts to combat international drug trafficking, money laundering, and fraud. The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) reported that these arrests were executed in close collaboration with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

The arrested individuals include six Franco-Moroccans wanted by French authorities on allegations of drug trafficking, money laundering, and fraud, as well as three Belgo-Moroccans pursued by Belgian law enforcement for international drug offenses. Additionally, one Dutch national of Moroccan descent is also among those arrested for similar charges, along with a French citizen facing a Moroccan arrest warrant for money laundering. Notably, ten of the eleven suspects were subject to Interpol's Red Notices, issued at the request of the respective European countries.

During the operation, law enforcement officials seized various luxury vehicles and motorcycles, substantial amounts of cash in both Moroccan dirhams and foreign currencies, banking documents, mobile phones, passports, identity cards, and several doses of cocaine. Those detained are currently being held for questioning as investigations continue to determine their involvement in the crimes attributed to them by foreign jurisdictions. Furthermore, Moroccan authorities are evaluating the appropriate legal proceedings under Moroccan law.

This operation underscores Morocco's commitment to enhancing security and judicial cooperation with several European nations in the fight against transnational drug trafficking and money laundering networks. Such initiatives are crucial in addressing the growing challenges posed by international crime syndicates.
