Moroccan Police Arrest 11 Suspects Linked to International Drug Trafficking

On June 9, 2023, the Moroccan police conducted a significant operation that resulted in the arrest of 11 individuals, including ten dual nationals of Moroccan and European descent and one French citizen. These arrests were made as part of simultaneous raids in Marrakech and Tangier, following a thorough cross-check of the suspects' identities against Interpol databases. This scrutiny revealed that ten of the apprehended individuals were listed in red notices requested by judicial authorities from France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Among those detained, there were six French citizens of Moroccan origin, sought by French authorities for alleged crimes that include money laundering, membership in drug trafficking organizations, and fraud. Additionally, three Belgian nationals of Moroccan descent were arrested due to their involvement in international drug trafficking, while a Dutch citizen of Moroccan origin was also taken into custody under a red notice for drug trafficking and money laundering.

The investigation further led to the arrest of a French citizen whose record indicated a national warrant for arrest issued by the Moroccan National Brigade of Judicial Police (BNPJ) in connection with a money laundering investigation.

During the execution of these arrests, police inspections resulted in the seizure of luxury watches, personal belongings, high-end cars and motorcycles, significant amounts of both national and foreign currencies, bank cards, mobile phones, doses of cocaine, as well as passports and identity documents belonging to the suspects. However, the sources did not specify whether the arrested individuals were part of the same criminal network.

Those detained are currently under police custody and are available for questioning by the public prosecutor's office as part of ongoing investigations. Given their Moroccan nationality, they are expected to face processing in accordance with national legislation, in relation to the official complaints lodged abroad against them.
