Significant Adjustments to Railway Traffic
The railway network in Morocco is set to undergo several adjustments in the coming weeks, as the National Office of Railways (ONCF) announces modifications to train schedules linked to the ongoing construction of the high-speed rail line (LGV) connecting Kénitra and Marrakech, along with interventions on conventional lines. A series of disruptions is expected to occur starting from Saturday, September 5th at 11:00 PM until Sunday, September 6th at 11:00 PM. During this period, many train services will be altered or temporarily suspended, and ONCF has assured that alternative solutions and connections will be made available for travelers to continue their journeys.
For instance, trains operating under the TNR service to and from El Jadida will only reach Bouskoura, requiring passengers to switch to Al Atlas trains to complete their travels. Similarly, TNR service from Settat will be temporarily suspended, with affected travelers directed toward the Al Atlas trains. The TNR train service to the airport will also be halted, but shuttle buses from Supratours will be arranged to facilitate passenger movement.
Additionally, direct train service between Safi and Casablanca will be suspended during this time. In Khouribga, trains will be limited to Berrechid, with connections available to Al Atlas trains for passengers wishing to continue their journey. These changes may also lead to delays for Al Atlas trains and adjustments in travel times. Therefore, ONCF advises travelers to check their train schedules prior to departure to avoid inconvenience.
Future Phases and Ongoing Communication
This initial phase of disruptions will be followed by another round of changes beginning on September 14, 2026, as the LGV Kénitra-Marrakech project advances. A new transportation plan will be implemented to adapt train operations to the construction constraints, which will include scheduling modifications, changes to certain stops, and limitations on routes. The gradual closure of specific stations, including the Faculties station and Ennassim station, is also anticipated.
Details regarding all these changes have yet to be fully disclosed. However, ONCF plans to share updated information starting the week of September 7th. Travelers will then be able to access details about schedules, affected services, route limitations, and any necessary transfers on various routes. To enhance traveler support, ONCF will also strengthen its information and assistance services at stations, onboard trains, and through its digital channels. Passengers are encouraged to check schedules before traveling to anticipate changes related to the ongoing works.
