Morocco Among the Top 10 Diesel Importing Countries in 2026

Morocco's Position in Global Diesel Imports

Recent international data has revealed that Morocco has secured a spot among the top ten countries globally in terms of diesel imports during the first nine months of 2026. This significant milestone highlights Morocco's reliance on diesel to meet its domestic energy demands amidst fluctuating global oil markets. As reported by thevoice.ma.

International Import Statistics

Australia topped the list of diesel importing nations, with an average of 405,000 barrels per day, followed by Brazil at approximately 238,000 barrels, and the United Kingdom at around 236,000 barrels daily. Other notable mentions include Turkey in fourth place, France fifth, South Africa sixth, Chile seventh, Mexico eighth, and Malaysia rounding off the list in tenth with an average of 105,000 barrels per day. Morocco ranked ninth, importing an average of 113,000 barrels per day, which marks a 12% increase compared to the previous year. This growth underscores the country's increasing dependence on oil imports to satisfy local consumption amidst the backdrop of volatile global energy prices.

Furthermore, the latest figures indicate a decrease in global diesel imports to approximately 4.12 million barrels per day from January to September 2026, down from 4.63 million barrels per day during the same period in the previous year, reflecting an 11% decline. Experts attribute this global reduction in diesel trade to supply chain disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions, particularly the ongoing conflict in Iran, and the subsequent ramifications on oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, restrictions on refined petroleum exports and damage to Russian refineries due to the Ukraine conflict have further exacerbated supply shortages and driven up prices.
