Canada Faces Defeat Against Ghana in U-17 Women’s World Cup
RABAT, Morocco – In a disappointing conclusion to their Group Stage campaign at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, Canada suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ghana at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat. This match marked Canada’s second loss in Group C, leaving them with a record of one win and two losses.
The match began with promising energy from both teams, as Canada’s Melyna Alexis had an early opportunity to score in the 15th minute with a well-aimed right-footed strike that unfortunately veered just wide of the left post. However, it was Ghana that broke the deadlock in the second half; Linda Achiaa found the net with a precise right-footed shot from inside the box in the 64th minute, giving her team the lead. Ghana sealed their victory in the dying moments of the match when Christiana Ashiaku scored a second goal in the 90+5th minute with a volley, solidifying their win against the Canadian side.
Despite the loss, Canada’s performance included some notable individual achievements. Chloe Scicchitano stood out with the highest passing accuracy among her teammates, completing 87% of her passes (40 out of 46 attempts). Furthermore, Scicchitano also holds the highest passing accuracy for any Canadian player in the tournament among those who have made 55 or more passes, boasting an impressive overall rate of 83.2% (104 out of 125). The game also saw a total of seven offsides, marking it as one of the highest in a single match in this World Cup, only surpassed by a few other encounters.
As Canada evaluates their performance in this World Cup, they now await the outcomes of other matches to determine their fate in progressing to the next phase of the tournament.
