Team Nice Côte d’Azur Engages in Strategic Mission to Morocco
From October 12 to 16, 2026, Team Nice Côte d’Azur undertook an important mission to Morocco, focusing on port infrastructure and energy transition. This initiative, organized by risingSUD, was conducted in collaboration with Business France and supported by the Team France Export from the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Morocco (CFCIM). During this mission, Stefano Cimmarusti, the Head of Blue & Green Economy, represented the team and engaged in various activities designed to foster cooperation and develop strategic partnerships.
Key Meetings and Collaborative Opportunities
The agenda for this mission was comprehensive and included institutional meetings, site visits, and discussions aimed at exploring Morocco's potential in port facilities and renewable energy. Notable visits included meetings with key stakeholders such as Tanger Med, Masen, IRESEN, the Port of Casablanca, OCP Group, Nareva, and the Moroccan Energy Federation. The discussions primarily revolved around enhancing port infrastructure, renewable energy initiatives, green hydrogen projects, and Power-to-X technologies. These conversations opened up avenues for collaboration between French and Moroccan businesses, highlighting the mutual benefits of such partnerships.
Participating companies, including NaTran, Capenergies, and Storengy, contributed to the mission's success, which culminated in a cocktail event at the CFCIM centered around the theme "Mediterranean Convergences: Morocco, Lebanon, PACA." This theme resonates with ongoing projects in the Côte d'Azur region, particularly those aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
For example, in Nice, the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur has initiated a project for the electrification of its port quays to power docked ships and minimize emissions. Additionally, the HY’SSA NISSA project aims to establish a renewable hydrogen production unit through electrolysis, supporting a fleet of 40 hydrogen buses. This reflects a broader commitment to sustainable energy practices in the region.
The Nice Côte d’Azur Airport has achieved a Level 5 accreditation in Airport Carbon Accreditation, meeting over 10% of its energy needs through geothermal energy and solar panels, further illustrating the commitment to green energy. Meanwhile, the Cannes Lérins Hydrogen station, operational since June 2026, can produce up to 800 kg of low-carbon hydrogen daily from treated wastewater, showing significant progress in sustainable transport solutions.
We express our gratitude to risingSUD for organizing this mission, as well as to CFCIM and Business France for their invaluable support throughout this endeavor.
