Fez Court Postpones Trial of Children's Home Case Until Late November

Fez Court Delays Trial Involving Children's Home Case

The Criminal Chamber of the Appeals Court in Fez has officially postponed the trial concerning 14 employees and officials from the Al-Wafa Children’s Home in Fez to a session scheduled for November 30. This decision was made earlier today, as some defendants, who are currently out on bail, failed to appear. Additionally, the court indicated the necessity to summon witnesses and reissue subpoenas for several accused individuals, thereby necessitating the delay.

During the session, presided over by Judge Mohamed Ben Maachou, the defense team presented requests for the temporary release of the defendants in exchange for financial guarantees. However, the public prosecutor objected to this request, leading the court to defer a decision on the matter until the end of the session, allowing for further discussion of the case elements.

The case has attracted considerable attention both locally and nationally, involving serious allegations, including human trafficking, incitement of minors to prostitution, and theft. These charges resulted in the detention of 14 individuals from the association, who are currently being held in the local prison in Borkayz. Notably, the proceedings have evolved throughout the investigation, with one suspect being taken into custody after initially being released, while another individual was freed from provisional detention.
