Fez Court Postpones Hearing for Child Welfare Case Involving 14 Officials
In a significant development today, the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Fez has postponed the hearing concerning the case involving 14 employees and officials from the Association of Dar Al-Aytam Al-Wafa in Fez to November 30. This decision comes after several accused individuals, who are currently out on bail, failed to appear in court. Furthermore, the court expressed the need to summon witnesses and reissue subpoenas for some defendants in this high-profile case.
The session, presided over by Judge Mohamed Ben Maachou, included discussions regarding requests from the defense team to grant the defendants provisional release in exchange for financial guarantees. However, the public prosecutor opposed this request, leading the court to defer its decision until the end of the session, pending further deliberation on the case's details.
This case is particularly grave, encompassing serious allegations of human trafficking, inciting minors to prostitution, and theft. These accusations have resulted in the prosecution and detention of 14 employees and officials from the association, who are currently held in the local prison of Bourkaiz. The case has attracted significant attention both locally and nationally, especially following changes in the status of some suspects during the investigation. Notably, one individual was placed under arrest after having previously been released, while another suspect who was in custody was released.
