Israir Suspends Ticket Sales for Marrakech Flights Amid Security Concerns

Israir Halts Ticket Sales to Marrakech Following Security Directive Changes

Israir, the Israeli airline, announced on Tuesday the temporary suspension of ticket sales for its flights to Marrakech, Morocco, pending further clarification on new security directives issued by local authorities. This decision particularly affects flights operated by Israeli airlines that utilize foreign-leased aircraft and crews, commonly referred to as "wet leasing." The airline emphasized that it will not resume ticket sales until local authorities provide definitive security guidelines and the necessary approvals.

The suspension comes in response to significant lapses in security protocols that were revealed following a recent terrorist attack involving a flydubai flight operating between Dubai and Tel Aviv last month. Israir conveyed that, due to this incident and the subsequent security measures, it has decided to freeze its plans to expand operations to Marrakech, including the decision to lease an additional aircraft. A company spokesperson stated, "Until the situation is clarified, we have suspended ticket sales for all flights to Marrakech."

Most of Israir's operations rely on leased aircraft, including crews sourced from foreign companies, which means they are not mandated to comply with all of Israel's stringent security regulations. The connection between Ben Gurion Airport and Marrakech had just been reestablished last month for the first time in nearly three years. Israir was preparing to extend its services on this route, with plans for three weekly flights starting in November, contingent on approval from local authorities.

In light of these developments, Israir was in negotiations to lease an additional aircraft to increase flight frequency. However, the airline reassured passengers that it will continue to operate in accordance with security directives, prioritizing the safety and security of its passengers and crews.
