Marrakech School Faces Maintenance Delays: Who is Responsible for Wasting Educational Time?

Marrakech School Faces Serious Maintenance Delays

The local office of the National Union of Education in Sidi Youssef Ben Ali, Marrakech, has released a statement highlighting significant delays in maintenance work at Imam Al-Suhaili Primary School since the beginning of the current school year. As we approach the end of the first semester, these ongoing repairs have adversely affected the school's regular operations. The institution is currently engaged in a leadership schools project for the 2026-2027 academic year, which has further complicated the educational environment and led to noticeable disruptions during the intensive support periods and the administration of pre and post-evaluations. This situation has negatively impacted teaching conditions and hindered the management of educational activities and assessments, compromising the normal flow of learning.

The statement, a copy of which was sent to us by "Akhbarona", indicated that the teaching staff at the school had previously expressed their discontent regarding the ongoing situation through a petition submitted to the local education directorate. This petition requested immediate intervention to expedite the maintenance work and resolve the disturbances plaguing the institution. However, as of the current date, no tangible solutions have been implemented to address the ongoing issues, raising legitimate questions about the reasons behind these persistent delays and the effectiveness of monitoring and oversight measures. Furthermore, the ongoing maintenance has resulted in frequent power outages, which, according to available information, have damaged several electrical appliances. The continuity of these outages poses a risk of further malfunctions affecting computers, lighting fixtures, and other essential equipment necessary for the educational process, necessitating urgent intervention to assess the recorded damages and implement appropriate measures to protect the equipment while ensuring the continuity of essential services at the school.

The union office has placed the responsibility for overseeing this issue squarely on the shoulders of the regional education directorate in Marrakech, demanding immediate action to halt the ongoing maintenance work and its resulting educational and material disturbances. They called for the swift completion of the maintenance and repairs within clear timelines, ensuring safety conditions and a conducive learning environment. Additionally, they urged for an evaluation of the damages inflicted on electrical and electronic equipment, alongside necessary actions to repair and safeguard them from damage caused by the recurrent power outages. The union also demanded transparency regarding the reasons for the delays in completing the maintenance work and accountability for any failures in management, oversight, and execution, insisting that appropriate administrative actions be taken in accordance with existing laws. They reaffirmed their solidarity with the teaching and administrative staff at the institution, emphasizing the professional pressure and disruption this ongoing situation creates and the potential negative impact on learning quality and the stability of school life.
