Moroccan Prime Minister Responds to Political Criticism with Strong Rebuttal

Prime Minister Fatima Zahra Mansouri Addresses Political Accusations

In a recent session of the Moroccan Parliament, Prime Minister Fatima Zahra Mansouri took a firm stand against the Justice and Development Party (PJD), accusing them of resorting to a narrative of victimhood and betrayal against their political opponents. Responding to PJD parliamentary leader Idris El Azmi, Mansouri emphasized that the discourse of victimization that once helped elevate the party to power in 2011 is no longer viable, stating, “You succeeded in 2011 because the Moroccan people trusted you, but times have changed.” This statement highlights her belief that the political landscape has evolved, and the tactics of the past should not dictate the present political dialogue.

Mansouri specifically criticized the PJD for accusing leaders of the Authenticity and Modernity Party of serving "Zionist agendas," vowing that she would not remain silent in the face of such allegations. Despite her strong rhetoric, she expressed a willingness to engage in dialogue with all political factions, including the PJD, asserting, "Political competition should not devolve into animosity; we are not enemies, but rather competitors in the political arena.”

Furthermore, the Prime Minister disclosed that she has been open to receiving various political parties interested in joining the government, with the exception of the leftist coalition and the PJD, which had made their positions known early on. She noted that while she was ready to engage in discussion with the PJD, achieving harmony between the parties proved to be challenging.

Regarding the formation of a governing coalition, Mansouri clarified that her aim was not merely to create a numerical majority but rather to establish a coalition based on shared visions and programs. This approach ultimately guided her selection of the four parties that comprise the current government, ensuring cohesion and the effective implementation of the government's agenda.
