Rabat – Morocco has taken significant steps by training up to 500 of its personnel in preparation for their deployment as part of the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza. This training initiative, which commenced in August, has been reported by The Times of Israel, citing an official from the Board of Peace. The training program was conducted under the supervision of the US-led ISF, which is a UN-mandated multinational peacekeeping and stabilization force aimed at supporting a comprehensive peace plan for Gaza.
In a collaborative effort, Morocco, alongside countries such as Albania, Kazakhstan, and Kosovo, has committed to contributing troops to this vital mission. The agreement governing Morocco's participation in the ISF was signed in July and establishes a legal framework that outlines the technical and operational aspects of the nation’s involvement. This agreement emphasizes Morocco's proactive approach to regional stability and peacekeeping.
The Moroccan contribution to the ISF is set to include the deployment of high-ranking armed forces officers to the ISF Joint Command, personnel from the Royal Gendarmerie and the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), as well as the establishment of a military field hospital. These measures reflect Morocco’s dedication to enhancing peace and security in the Middle East while drawing upon its extensive experience in UN peacekeeping operations.
During the signing ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita articulated that this agreement embodies King Mohammed VI’s unwavering commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region, alongside continued support for the Palestinian people. Bourita highlighted that the royal vision for peace has remained consistent throughout.
As a founding member of the Board of Peace, established during a summit in Washington chaired by former US President Donald Trump in January, Morocco's involvement in the ISF underscores its strategic role in international peacekeeping efforts.
