Morocco Strengthens Defense Ties with Liberia Through Military Vehicle Delivery and Training

Morocco Enhances Military Cooperation with Liberia

In a significant step towards bolstering defense relations, Morocco has commenced the delivery of military vehicles and supplies to Liberia. This initiative coincides with the preparation of nearly 140 Liberian soldiers to travel to Morocco for commando training. According to a report by The Liberian Investigator published on October 20, a Moroccan C-130 cargo plane successfully landed at Roberts International Airport on October 19, marking the arrival of the first batch of military equipment intended for the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL). Between October 19 and 22, additional flights are set to transport the soldiers back to Morocco for their specialized training.

This military collaboration is rooted in a defense cooperation agreement signed on October 21, 2025, in Rabat by Geraldine Janet George, the Minister of Defense for Liberia. The agreement encompasses military training, technical assistance, and cooperation in health sectors, with a joint military commission overseeing its execution. This commission alternates its meetings between Rabat and Monrovia, ensuring active dialogue and coordination.

The partnership gained momentum following a visit to Morocco by Major General Davidson Fayiah Forleh, Chief of Staff of the AFL, in September. During this visit, discussions were held regarding the implementation of the defense agreement, including a protocol aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Liberian military. Notably, Morocco has committed to assisting Liberia in establishing an air force, which includes training pilots and technicians in the field.

Furthermore, representatives from the AFL have engaged with officials from the Moroccan Royal Navy and naval academies to explore potential support for the Liberian Coast Guard, which is tasked with safeguarding the nation’s waters. In addition, Morocco's Mohammed V Military Hospital is set to play a role in medical personnel exchanges and specialized care through the AFL's medical command.
