Morocco's Airports Welcome Over 26 Million Passengers in 2026
In a remarkable display of growth, Morocco's airports recorded more than 26 million travelers during the first eight months of 2026, marking an impressive increase of 8.81% compared to the same period last year. This surge signals a robust expansion in travel activity, highlighting the critical role that air transport plays in bolstering tourism, hospitality, and associated investments within the sector. The strong performance is particularly evident from European, American, and African markets, which have shown increased engagement with Moroccan destinations.
The National Airports Office reported that international air traffic rose by 8.82%, accounting for approximately 23.22 million passengers, while domestic flights increased by 8.76%, bringing the total number of internal travelers to around 2.8 million. This upward trend reflects a growing demand for international travel alongside a rising interest in intercity mobility within Morocco.
Marrakech Takes the Lead in Passenger Traffic
Leading the statistics is Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, which welcomed 8.25 million passengers, followed closely by Marrakech Menara Airport with approximately 7.23 million travelers. Agadir Al Massira Airport recorded around 2.5 million passengers, while Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport served about 2.05 million. Rabat-Salé Airport also contributed, with around 1.7 million passengers. This ranking underscores Casablanca's pivotal role as a primary air gateway to Morocco, while also highlighting the significance of Marrakech and Agadir in attracting tourists to popular destinations.
The continued growth in air traffic provides these cities with opportunities to enhance hotel occupancy, expand tourism transport services, and diversify entertainment and dining options. However, the overall benefit is closely linked to visitor spending patterns and the duration of their stays. Europe remains the largest source market for travelers to Morocco, contributing approximately 19.3 million passengers, an annual increase of 9.22%. Additionally, South American markets have shown striking growth, with a 33.5% rise to 71.7 thousand passengers, while North American traffic increased by 13% to 689 thousand. African traffic also grew by 13.3% to reach 1.4 million travelers.
Conversely, air traffic with the Middle East and the Far East experienced a decline of 2.43%, totaling 1.45 million passengers. This shift showcases the varying performance across tourism markets and emphasizes the importance of diversifying targeted destinations to reduce reliance on a single region. The ongoing influx of travelers not only boosts the Moroccan economy but also enhances the country's appeal as a premier travel destination on the global stage.
