Security Alert in Marrakech Following Taxi Driver Kidnapping and Arson Attempt

Security Forces Mobilized in Marrakech to Investigate Violent Kidnapping Incident

On October 22, 2026, at 19:03, security agencies and the Royal Gendarmerie in Marrakech activated their various field teams to unravel the mystery behind a brutal attack that targeted a second-class taxi driver. The incident began when two individuals kidnapped the driver, robbed him of his belongings, and subsequently bound him inside the trunk of his vehicle before setting it ablaze in an attempt to eliminate him.

The horrifying events unfolded in the "Diyar As-Saada" neighborhood located in the "Al-Azouzia" area, next to the bus station. The suspects hailed the taxi under the pretense of needing transportation. However, as soon as the vehicle was in motion, one of the assailants brandished a large knife against the driver's neck, threatening him with death to force him to divert the taxi toward a secluded area in "Douar Ouled Ahmed" within the territorial jurisdiction of "Saada."

Upon reaching the isolated location, the perpetrators subjected the victim to severe physical abuse and violent assault, stripping him of his daily earnings and mobile phone. Under extreme duress, they forcibly extracted the PIN numbers for his bank card to drain his financial resources. In a chilling move aimed at erasing all traces of the crime and silencing the sole witness, the assailants bound the driver and incapacitated him, before throwing him into the trunk of the car and locking it securely. They then ignited the vehicle and fled to an unknown destination.

Against all odds, the driver fought for his life amidst flames and smoke. Miraculously, he managed to free himself, opening the trunk from the inside and escaping, albeit with serious burns covering his hands and body.

Upon being alerted, civil protection teams promptly intervened to transport the victim to the emergency department of the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Marrakech, where he is currently under close medical supervision receiving necessary treatment.

In parallel, the relevant public prosecutor's office has initiated an inquiry into the case. The public prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Marrakech has instructed a thorough judicial investigation into the incident.

The local Royal Gendarmerie in "Saada" is racing against time, working closely with the Marrakech Security Directorate and forensic police to conduct field and technical investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending the perpetrators for prosecution.
