Achraf Hakimi Faces Court Over Rape Allegations in France

Achraf Hakimi Set to Stand Trial Amid Serious Allegations

Achraf Hakimi, the 27-year-old captain of the Moroccan national football team and a prominent player for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), is facing serious legal challenges as he prepares to appear before a court in France. The Versailles Court of Appeal has decided to refer his case to the criminal court in the Hauts-de-Seine department, following allegations of rape that have emerged from an incident dating back to February 2023. The accuser claims that she met Hakimi through Instagram and subsequently visited his home, where she alleges that the assault occurred. Hakimi, however, has vehemently denied these allegations, maintaining his innocence in the face of such serious claims.

Hakimi Issues Statement on the Allegations

In response to the accusations, Hakimi took to social media to share his thoughts, stating, "I have chosen to remain silent for many years. I believed that by preserving my dignity, being patient, and trusting the justice system, the right decisions would ultimately be made." He further emphasized, "Today, a story is being told that is not my own—detrimental to my family, my life, and above all, the truth. Sometimes I feel like I have become an easy target. I have been waiting for this trial since day one, and I am now eagerly anticipating the moment when I can finally speak." This statement reflects Hakimi's determination to clear his name as he faces the court proceedings ahead.

Rachel-Flore Pardo, the lawyer representing the accuser, commented on the court's decision, asserting that it aligns fully with the circumstances of the case and matches the statements from the prosecutor, the investigating judge, and the attorney general at the appeals court. As Hakimi prepares for this legal battle, he remains focused on his responsibilities with the Moroccan national team, who are currently competing in the World Cup. Their next match is against Scotland, following a commendable 1-1 draw against Brazil, a record World Cup champion, and a remarkable fourth-place finish in the previous tournament held in Qatar. Furthermore, Hakimi recently celebrated his second consecutive Champions League victory with PSG.
