African Teams Choose Morocco for June Friendlies Ahead of 2027 AFCON Qualifiers

African National Teams Opt for Morocco for Upcoming June Friendlies

As the international football break approaches, several African national teams are setting their sights on Morocco, which will host a series of friendly matches from June 1 to June 9. These matches are part of the preparation for the upcoming continental challenges, notably the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to information released by the website Afrik Foot, several teams have tentatively agreed to participate in these friendlies in Morocco. Teams such as Niger, Togo, Guinea, Liberia, and Benin have shown interest, along with others that are potential participants including Mauritania, Botswana, Sudan, and the Central African Republic. It is expected that between 10 to 12 teams will take part in these matches.

This series of friendlies presents a crucial opportunity for these national teams to engage in two preparatory matches before the qualifiers for AFCON commence in September. Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is still deliberating whether to hold the continental tournament in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, or to relocate it to another country.

The friendly matches will not be limited to senior teams, as participation from under-23 national teams is also anticipated. The matches are set to take place in various Moroccan cities, with major events expected in Rabat, Casablanca, and Tangier.
