Agadir Ida-Outanane Implements New Child Protection Action Plan for 2026-2027

Agadir Ida-Outanane's Commitment to Child Protection

The Child Protection Committee in the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture recently convened in Agadir to discuss and adopt a new action plan for the years 2026-2027. This meeting is part of a national initiative aimed at strengthening child protection measures throughout the region. Under the leadership of Said Amzazi, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region and governor of the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture, the event saw the participation of various representatives from child protection services, alongside the UNICEF representative in Morocco.

The newly developed plan is reported to be based on an inclusive participatory approach, which follows a thorough territorial assessment conducted by a specialized technical committee in close coordination with various stakeholders in the child protection sector, supported technically by UNICEF. The plan is structured around three main pillars: enhancing prevention efforts in both school and social environments, promoting the psychological and social well-being of children, and improving governance while increasing the effectiveness of protective measures.

Collective Efforts Needed for Success

During the meeting, Mr. Amzazi emphasized that the success of this social initiative depends significantly on the active participation and coordinated mobilization of all concerned actors. He underscored the necessity of securing both financial and human resources to ensure the sustainability of the proposed programs and interventions. Furthermore, he highlighted the critical need to combat various forms of social vulnerability affecting children through a humanitarian approach rooted in dignity, protection, and inclusion.

In a statement to MAP, Hicham Fathallah from the regional delegation of National Solidarity in Souss-Massa noted that this meeting provided an opportunity to present the diagnostic assessment conducted in Agadir Ida-Outanane as well as the child protection action plan formulated by a local committee with the technical support of UNICEF. He also outlined the primary objectives of the plan and the necessary funding mechanisms for its effective implementation. Fatimzahra Diab, head of the Social Action Service at the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture, reiterated the importance of the participatory approach that guided the territorial assessment of the situation of children, asserting that the new action plan for 2026-2027 includes mechanisms aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing the efficacy of child protection measures.
