Agadir Launches Its First High-Level Bus Line: A New Era in Urban Mobility

Agadir's Innovative Public Transport Initiative

This May, the city of Agadir has taken a significant step towards enhancing urban mobility with the inauguration of its first High-Level Bus Service (BHNS), named the Amalway Trambus. This ambitious project establishes a vital connection between the Port of Agadir and the Tikiouine neighborhood, featuring a total of 35 modern stations meticulously designed along entirely revamped routes. This transformative initiative is not merely a transportation upgrade; it represents a pivotal shift in the urban landscape of Agadir, often referred to as the capital of Souss.

Modern Infrastructure Meets Sustainable Development

The Amalway Trambus line is designed with international standards in mind, ensuring dedicated lanes that promote punctuality and frequent service, even during peak hours. The buses are equipped with air conditioning, making them comfortable for all passengers, including those with reduced mobility. The stations and buses feature a state-of-the-art video surveillance system to enhance safety, coupled with a real-time passenger information system and electronic ticketing to streamline the user experience. This bus line is envisaged as the backbone of the Grand Agadir transport network, integrating seamlessly with existing bus routes and future exchange hubs to facilitate smooth connections to university areas, employment centers, and recreational facilities.

The project is spearheaded by the Local Development Company Agadir Mobilité, in collaboration with a range of institutional partners including the Ministry of Interior, the Souss-Massa Regional Council, the Grand Agadir Territorial Collectivities Group, and the Agadir Municipality. Funding for this transformative project comes from multiple sources, notably the Transport Reform Support Fund (FRAT), along with contributions from the Souss Massa Regional Council, the Agadir Municipality, and the French Development Agency, which sees this initiative as a concrete example of its commitment to sustainable mobility and the low-carbon transition of Moroccan cities.
