Aïd al-Adha: Enhancing Livestock Health Inspections in Casablanca
As Aïd al-Adha approaches, the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) has intensified its veterinary inspections in livestock markets across Casablanca. This proactive measure aims to ensure the health and quality of livestock, essential for the celebration of this significant Islamic festival. The ONSSA's veterinary teams are conducting daily rounds, collecting samples, and performing laboratory analyses to guarantee the well-being of the animals and the quality of feed used for their fattening.
The atmosphere in the sheep markets of Casablanca is becoming increasingly lively as families prepare for the holiday. Buyers are seen selecting their sheep amidst the hustle and bustle, while ONSSA's veterinary teams diligently inspect the animals and scrutinize the breeding conditions. Redouane Et-Taib, a veterinary inspector at ONSSA, stated, "During Aïd al-Adha, our services across Morocco enhance control operations at fattening units and livestock feed production facilities." This initiative reflects a commitment to maintaining high health standards in the livestock sector.
At the markets, veterinarians are actively collecting samples of animal feed and water to assess their safety and quality. These samples are sent to accredited laboratories for thorough analysis. The inspection teams also monitor the health status of the animals being sold. "We conduct daily inspections to ensure the safety of the livestock," Et-Taib explained, adding that over 60 control operations have been carried out in the markets to date, alongside more than 100 analyses of sheep and goat meat and over 40 analyses of livestock feed.
As visitors engage in the festive preparations, the ONSSA's presence serves to reassure consumers of the health status of the livestock. "The health of the livestock is good, thanks in part to vaccination campaigns conducted by ONSSA in collaboration with private veterinarians and local authorities," confirmed Et-Taib. In anticipation of the holiday, ONSSA's veterinary services will continue to be available to assist citizens and address their inquiries. "We have a standby service throughout the week leading up to Aïd and for the five days that follow," he concluded.
