Fake Tour Guide Arrested After Assault on a Tourist in Marrakech
On July 21, 2026, police in Marrakech apprehended a suspect believed to have posed as a tour guide, following allegations of assault and extortion against a foreign tourist within the city’s historic district. This operation was prompted by the circulation of a video on social media, where the tourist detailed the incident, enabling law enforcement to swiftly identify and arrest the alleged perpetrator.
According to initial reports, the arrested individual had demanded a sum of 1,000 dirhams from the tourist in exchange for unauthorized guiding services. The situation escalated into a physical confrontation over the payment, although the tourist has emphasized that this incident was an isolated case and does not reflect the hospitality and good nature of Moroccans towards visitors.
The suspect is currently under judicial investigation, supervised by the relevant public prosecutor's office, to ascertain all circumstances and details surrounding the case and to take appropriate legal actions against him.
