Dushanbe Grand Slam and Mandurah Oceania Open Insights

The Dushanbe Grand Slam, taking place from May 1 to 3, 2026, serves as a pivotal event for competitors like Max Gregory and Rachael Hawkes. Gregory, who will be competing in the -100kg category, is making his return to competition after a lengthy hiatus, aiming to regain his competitive edge after notable performances in 2025, including a silver medal at the Tallinn European Open. His first match will be against Dzhakhongir Madzhidov from Tajikistan.

On the other hand, Rachael Hawkes will be making her Grand Slam debut in the -70kg category. With a solid year of international experience under her belt, including a silver at the Riga Senior European Cup, she is excited to test her skills against higher-ranked opponents, facing Nika Koren from Slovenia in her opening bout.

Meanwhile, the Mandurah Oceania Open on May 2, 2026, will see competitors like Laurence Hill and Joshua Bell aiming to improve their standings after previous events this year. Hill, competing in the -60kg category, seeks to build on his seventh-place finish at the Casablanca African Open, while Bell aims to make a mark in his second international outing of the year at -66kg. Other notable competitors include Ben Moore in the -73kg category, fresh off a bronze at the Dakar African Open, and Ashleigh Barnikel in the -48kg category, who is eager to return to the podium.

As the weekend unfolds, all eyes will be on these athletes as they strive for excellence and represent British judo on the international stage. Good luck to everyone competing and officiating this weekend!
