CAF Boosts Financial Rewards for African Club Competitions
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced an increase in the prize money for its prestigious club competitions, with the Champions League now offering a whopping $6 million in rewards. In a significant move, the CAF also raised the prize fund for the Confederation Cup to $4 million, as confirmed in a statement on Monday, March 9, 2026.
Patrice Motsepe, the South African president of CAF, revealed that this notable enhancement includes an additional $2 million for the winner of the Champions League, alongside a similar increase for the Confederation Cup champion for the 2025-26 season. These adjustments reflect a 50% increase in the Champions League prize pool, while the Confederation Cup sees an impressive 100% rise.
These recent increases bring the total financial rewards and solidarity payments allocated to African clubs to over $42 million annually, highlighting CAF's commitment to enhancing the financial landscape of African football. This strategic adjustment aims not only to reward clubs for their hard work and dedication but also to elevate the competitive nature of African football on the global stage.
