Canada's Dominant Performance Secures World Cup Spot
In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, Canada Soccer’s Women’s Under-17 National Team (CANW17) has clinched a coveted spot in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2026™. This remarkable achievement comes on the heels of their dominant performance in Group A at the Final Round of the 2026 Concacaf Women’s U-17 Qualifiers held in San Rafael, Costa Rica. Canada not only topped their group but did so with an impeccable record, winning all three matches.
The team's journey began with a resounding 5:0 victory against Nicaragua on March 17, followed by an even more commanding 7:0 win over the Dominican Republic two days later. They capped off their successful group stage with another impressive 5:0 win against El Salvador on March 22. Altogether, Canada scored a staggering total of 17 goals during the tournament, showcasing the depth of their talent with contributions from eight different players, while maintaining a flawless defensive record by not conceding a single goal throughout the three matches.
Leading the charge for Canada were Gabriela Istocki and Lacey Kindel, both finishing as the team’s top scorers with four goals each. Other notable contributions came from Brooklyn Boldt, Adalyn Fairweather, and Reed Tingley, each of whom scored two goals, while Mélyna Alexis, Racquel Partovi, and Brooklyn Schwartzberg also made their mark on the scoreboard. The team’s success is a testament to their hard work and commitment, reflecting their relentless pursuit of excellence on the field.
Jesse Acteson, the Women’s U-17 Interim Technical Project Lead, expressed pride in the team's accomplishments, stating, "As a group, we came here with one goal, and we are proud of the way these players represented Canada in every moment of the tournament. We were really happy with the performances and felt that we improved every game. Qualifying for the World Cup is a well-deserved achievement, and it’s a reward they’ve earned through their hard work and dedication. We’re excited to return to Morocco and take the next step on the world stage.”
With this qualification, Canada is set to make its ninth appearance in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The tenth edition of this prestigious tournament will unfold in Morocco from October 17 to November 7, 2026, featuring 24 teams vying for the ultimate global title.
