Casablanca-Settat Develops Major Stormwater Basin in Sbata to Combat Flooding

Transformative Infrastructure Project in Sbata

In a significant move to mitigate flooding risks in the rapidly urbanizing area of Sbata, the SRM Casablanca-Settat has initiated the construction of a large stormwater basin and drainage gallery. This infrastructural endeavor, with a total budget of approximately 100 million dirhams, aims to safeguard the South-East region of Sbata against the increasing threat of urban flooding, particularly during heavy rainfall seasons. The project is part of broader efforts to enhance urban infrastructure and improve living conditions in under-equipped neighborhoods.

Details of the Stormwater Management System

The stormwater basin will cover an area of about 100 hectares, boasting a storage capacity of 37,000 cubic meters. It will be fed by a collector with a diameter of 1200 mm, designed to store rainwater effectively, thus preventing potential inundations in the area. To ensure efficient drainage outside of the rainy periods, a dedicated underground drainage gallery measuring over 740 meters in length will facilitate the evacuation of stormwater. This gallery, which is 1 meter wide and 1.80 meters high, will include six access wells and is already connected to the completed "10 Mars" gallery, marking a major step forward in the project's implementation.
