Celebrating Franco-Moroccan Ties: French Ambassador's Remarks on National Day in Rabat

Strengthening Franco-Moroccan Relations

The French Embassy in Morocco held a grand reception in Rabat on July 14 to commemorate France's National Day. The event, attended by over 1,500 guests, showcased the strong bilateral partnership between France and Morocco, as emphasized by French Ambassador Philippe Lalliot. In his address, Lalliot conveyed a message of forward-thinking collaboration, stating, "Here in Rabat, as in Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech, and Laâyoune, where I was a few days ago to inaugurate the city's first Alliance Française, we are not merely talking about the future: we are building it, day after day." His remarks were made in the presence of Mohamed Saad Berrada, the Moroccan Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, who represented the Moroccan government at the celebration.

Highlighting the depth of the Morocco-France partnership, Ambassador Lalliot referred to a significant letter from President Emmanuel Macron to King Mohammed VI in July 2024. In this correspondence, France acknowledged that the present and future of the Sahara align with Morocco's sovereignty. Lalliot remarked, "French and Moroccan diplomacy are jointly promoting the fundamental principles that underpin the international order and multilateral organizations," showcasing the commitment to a collaborative diplomatic approach.

Future Prospects and Shared Goals

Ambassador Lalliot also emphasized France's role as the leading foreign investor and employer in Morocco, noting the contributions of numerous French companies to the growth of Moroccan industry over the past decade. Looking to the future, he outlined several key priorities aimed at further enhancing bilateral relations. These include proposing shared solutions to global challenges, improving security cooperation, and fostering mutual influence in emerging economic sectors. Additionally, he stressed the importance of nurturing friendship and understanding between the two nations, particularly among the youth, who represent the future of Franco-Moroccan relations.

Concluding his speech, Philippe Lalliot praised the profound human connection between the French and Moroccan peoples, which is vividly reflected in the active engagement of the diasporas from both nations. This emphasis on interpersonal relationships underlines the cultural and social ties that bind France and Morocco, further reinforcing the commitment to a collaborative future.
