Art Auction in Casablanca Features Renowned Moroccan Artists
On June 25, 2026, the Moroccan Company of Works and Art Objects (CMOOA) will host a significant auction in Casablanca, highlighting the rich artistic heritage of Morocco. This event will be preceded by a public exhibition from June 13 to June 24, allowing art enthusiasts and collectors to preview the impressive collection of 59 lots that will be available for bidding.
This auction comes at a time when Moroccan artists are gaining increasing recognition on the international stage. The event will prominently feature works from leading figures in Moroccan modern art, including Jilali Gharbaoui, Ahmed Cherkaoui, André El Baz, Mohammed Kacimi, Mohamed Melehi, Mohamed Rabi, Chaïbia Tallal, and Farid Belkahia. Among the most anticipated pieces are a 1960s composition by Ahmed Cherkaoui, estimated to fetch between 1.6 and 1.8 million dirhams, and a historical artwork by Mohamed Melehi, valued at approximately 1.5 to 1.7 million dirhams.
Highlighting Emerging Trends in Moroccan Art
The auction is set to spotlight Hadj Abdelkrim El Ouazzani, an artist whose work has recently garnered renewed critical interest. Additionally, a selection of Orientalist artworks, preserved in private collections for decades, will also be showcased, featuring notable pieces by artists such as Armand Point and Jacques Majorelle. Through this carefully curated collection, the CMOOA aims to continue its mission of promoting Moroccan artistic heritage while fostering a dialogue between different phases of art history in Morocco. The public exhibition will be open Monday through Saturday, leading up to the auction, which is scheduled for 6 PM on June 25.
