Dismantling of a Human Trafficking Network in Agadir

In a significant operation coordinated by the Agadir police and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), authorities successfully dismantled a suspected clandestine migration and human trafficking network, resulting in the arrest of three individuals, including one woman. The suspects were reportedly preparing to facilitate a maritime crossing for 25 irregular migration candidates, which included seven women and three minors, located in Agadir and the nearby Sidi Bibi area.

As part of the investigation, police conducted searches that led to the seizure of a substantial amount of cash believed to be derived from these criminal activities. Additionally, a vehicle used in the logistics of the network has been impounded. The adult suspects have been placed in custody under the supervision of the relevant judicial authority, while investigations continue to uncover any potential national and international connections related to this case.

Details of the Arrest and Ongoing Investigations

On March 24, police from the Agadir security prefecture, collaborating with DGST agents, apprehended three individuals suspected of being part of a criminal organization involved in irregular migration and human trafficking. Among those arrested were two men with prior criminal records and a woman. They were caught in the act as they were preparing to facilitate a clandestine maritime migration operation.

This operation was intended to assist 25 individuals seeking to migrate illegally, including several vulnerable candidates located in various neighborhoods of Agadir and the rural area of Sidi Bibi. Coordinated efforts by the authorities involved a thorough sweep of these locations to ensure the safety and security of potential victims.

The executed searches yielded not only cash but also a light vehicle, suspected to have been utilized in supporting the network's logistical operations. These material findings are expected to bolster the ongoing investigations and help identify the operational mechanics of this trafficking network, along with possible connections to other criminal activities.

In verifying the identities of the detained individuals and the irregular migrants, it was discovered that two of them were wanted at the national level, with previous involvement in drug trafficking and assault cases. This revelation underscores the potential links between irregular migration networks and other forms of organized crime, emphasizing the critical need for coordinated security operations.

The adult suspects are currently in police custody as judicial proceedings unfold, while the detained minors are under protective measures in accordance with established protocols. Investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances surrounding this case, identify any accomplices, and trace the national and international ramifications of the suspected network.
