easyJet Launches New Base in Marrakech
In a significant move to expand its presence in Morocco, easyJet has officially opened a new base in Marrakech, featuring three aircraft and introducing six new routes alongside year-round flights for existing services. This strategic expansion was celebrated during a recent event attended by prominent figures from the tourism and aviation sectors, and is projected to facilitate a remarkable offering of four million seats within its inaugural year. The introduction of this base not only strengthens easyJet's position as the second-largest airline operating in Marrakech but also highlights its commitment to enhancing travel connectivity across the region.
New Routes and Job Opportunities
The newly established base will support the launch of flights from various cities, including Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich, to Marrakech, with these routes now available for booking for the winter season of 2026. Additionally, services from Nantes to Essaouira, Bordeaux to Agadir, and Birmingham to Agadir are set to be launched later this spring. Several routes, such as those from Lille, Strasbourg, and Hamburg to Marrakech, will operate throughout the year, further solidifying easyJet's network in Morocco. This expansion is anticipated to generate approximately 100 direct jobs and many more indirect roles, significantly bolstering Morocco's tourism industry through enhanced travel access and increased capacity. Kenton Jarvis, the CEO of easyJet, expressed enthusiasm over the launch, marking it as a milestone in the airline's 20-year history within the country and reflecting its commitment to providing more travel opportunities while contributing positively to the local economy.
To further enrich its offerings, easyJet is also introducing new winter routes, including flights from Prague starting on October 25, 2026, and from Newcastle and Zurich launching in early November. Summer services are also set to commence, with Hamburg to Marrakech flights starting on May 1, 2026. With Morocco quickly emerging as a sought-after destination for package holidays, easyJet holidays is expanding its portfolio to feature over 70 hotels ranging from three to five stars, including several luxury options. Since beginning operations in Morocco in 2006, easyJet now services five airports across the nation, affirming its status as the largest airline connecting Morocco with the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
