El Salvador's Friendly Match Against Morocco Canceled: What’s Next for the Team?

El Salvador Cancels Friendly Match Against Morocco

The President of the Salvadoran Football Federation has announced the cancellation of the highly anticipated friendly match scheduled against Morocco during the upcoming FIFA date in June. The El Salvador national team had planned to face Morocco in what was expected to be a thrilling encounter; however, complications have arisen that prevent the Moroccan side from fulfilling their commitment in the United States on June 3rd.

Yamil Bukele, the President of the Salvadoran Football Federation, revealed that Morocco proposed to reschedule the match for June 6th, albeit on Moroccan soil. Unfortunately for El Salvador, this option was not feasible due to pre-existing commitments during the same dates.

Moreover, Bukele shared that the Moroccan Football Federation offered to cover the travel expenses for the Salvadoran team and staff to Africa. However, the team had to decline this generous invitation because FIFA regulations prohibit playing two friendly matches on different continents during the same FIFA date. "We received official correspondence from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation notifying us that they would not have their full squad available from May 29th as initially planned for the match on June 3rd in Maryland, USA. In light of this situation, they proposed to play in Morocco on June 2nd, covering all expenses incurred by our team for the trip to the African continent. We appreciated their courtesy, formality, and openness, but traveling there is impossible due to FIFA's regulations, which prevent matches from being played on two different continents during the same FIFA date. Following our planning and process, we have two friendly matches scheduled for this period," Bukele explained in a statement shared on social media.

Upcoming Matches for El Salvador

Following the cancellation of the friendly against Morocco, Bukele confirmed that one of the two matches scheduled for June will be against Qatar. The Salvadoran team is currently awaiting an announcement regarding their second opponent. "We can confirm that one of the games the Salvadoran national football team will play during this FIFA date will be against Qatar on June 6th in Los Angeles. This match against the Qatari team will not be broadcast on TV due to regulations from the football authorities of that country. We will soon officially announce the second friendly match for this FIFA date," Bukele added.
