Significant Arrests Across Morocco
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), in conjunction with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), announced the arrest of eleven individuals on Monday. Among these detainees, ten hold dual citizenships of Moroccan and either French, Belgian, or Dutch nationality, along with one French national. All of them were subject to national or international search warrants linked to serious financial crimes and drug trafficking activities.
The arrests occurred in the cities of Marrakech and Tangier during simultaneous security operations, which were initiated following the analysis of data from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). The intelligence revealed that ten of the suspects were the subjects of Red Notices issued at the request of French, Belgian, and Dutch judicial authorities.
Criminal Charges and Seizures
Among those arrested are six French nationals of Moroccan descent, who are wanted by French authorities for charges including money laundering, membership in criminal organizations engaged in drug trafficking, fraud, and breach of trust. Additionally, three Belgian nationals of Moroccan origin were sought by Belgian judicial authorities for international drug trafficking offenses. The same operation led to the capture of a Dutch national of Moroccan origin, who was also under a Red Notice due to suspicions of international drug trafficking and money laundering. Furthermore, another French national, wanted in Morocco by the National Judicial Police Brigade (BNPJ), was apprehended in connection with a separate case regarding money laundering.
Following the arrests, searches were conducted, resulting in the seizure of various high-value items and evidence, including luxury watches, high-end cars and motorcycles, large sums of money in both local and foreign currencies, bank documents, mobile phones, doses of cocaine, as well as passports and identification documents belonging to the suspects.
The detainees have been placed in custody pending further investigation, allowing authorities to ascertain the extent of the alleged crimes as outlined in the official foreign cases and the Moroccan legal proceedings. The DGSN emphasizes that these investigations will determine the applicable legal consequences, in accordance with national law, considering the Moroccan nationality of several suspects and the judicial requests forwarded by foreign authorities.
