Investigation into Poisoning Incident Involving Multiple Individuals
In a recent development from the Court of First Instance in Fes, the trial concerning four individuals—a prominent engineer, two technicians, and a student—accused of poisoning has been postponed. This decision was made during a session held on Thursday, following an order from Rashid Ousghir, the investigating judge in the third chamber of the same court. The case will now be revisited on April 9, 2024, to allow for the summoning of witnesses, accompanied by lawyer Hassan Shrou from the Fes Bar Association.
The origins of this case trace back to a formal complaint lodged by two individuals who claimed to have suffered symptoms of poisoning after consuming a beverage called “Atay” during an outing at the Ifrane region, located near Sefrou. Following their consumption of this drink, both individuals were subsequently hospitalized, receiving medical treatment, with one of them obtaining a medical certificate declaring a recovery period of 30 days.
During the preliminary investigation, police and the investigating judge took statements from the accused and several witnesses. The accused emphatically denied the allegations against them, asserting that they had also consumed the same food and drinks during the outing without incident. After concluding the preliminary investigative procedures and hearing from all involved parties, the investigating judge decided to pursue charges against the four defendants for the crime of poisoning, thereby referring the case to the Court of First Instance in Fes for legal proceedings. It is noteworthy that the accused are relatives of the plaintiffs in this civil case.
Previously, on February 5, the court had decided to conduct the proceedings in absentia for any defendants who failed to appear. This case was first presented before the court on December 18, 2025, marking a significant timeline in ongoing legal proceedings.
