IMC Morocco 2026: A Groundbreaking Mining Event
The 3rd edition of the International Mining Congress & Exhibition (IMC Morocco 2026) is set to take place from October 6 to 8, 2026, in Rabat, the capital and administrative heart of Morocco. This prestigious event will be organized by the Federation of Mineral Industry of Morocco (FDIM) in collaboration with AME Trade Ltd, with the robust support of the Moroccan government, specifically the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
Morocco's Rising Status in Global Mining
Morocco has made impressive strides in the global mining sector, recently ranking 15th in the Investment Attractiveness Index according to the Fraser Institute’s 2025 Annual Survey of Mining Companies. This achievement underscores the nation’s commitment to diversifying its economy and establishing itself as a pivotal player in the global mineral supply chain. The country boasts a wealth of resources, robust regulations, and sustainable practices that make it a prime location for the production of electro molecules and various minerals, including phosphates, lead, zinc, copper, gold, and cobalt.
In addition to its vast mineral reserves, Morocco's strategic geographical location provides a unique advantage, bridging Africa and Europe while serving as a meeting point for significant geopolitical influences that shape technological and environmental decisions. The Moroccan government has ambitiously launched a public tender for the exploration of precious and strategic minerals across its eastern provinces, covering approximately 13,000 square kilometers in the Tafilalet and Figuig mining basin.
IMC 2025 set a high bar for the African mining sector, leading to the adoption of the Marrakech Declaration, a commitment to environmental safeguards, social responsibility, and governance standards intended to attract global capital focused on ESG-compliant “green mining.” The honorable Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, emphasized the significance of this declaration during the opening ceremony, stating, “This declaration is not Moroccan. It is African. It belongs to every African nation and marks our entry into a new era where we define our own rules and determine the value of our own resources.”
Building on the successes of the previous edition, IMC 2026 will welcome over 650 delegates from more than 40 countries, including high-level representatives from leading mining nations. The event will also feature over 100 exhibitors showcasing the complete spectrum of the mining supply chain, with lead sponsors from major companies like OCP, Managem, and Aya Gold and Silver.
Morocco's mineral landscape is diverse, featuring regular production of various minerals and holding three-quarters of the world’s known phosphate reserves, making it the foremost exporter of crude phosphates globally. With ambitious plans to double its non-phosphate mining revenue to over $1.7 billion by 2030, Morocco is committed to sustainable practices that align with the European Union’s green strategies. The nation aims to integrate mining with downstream battery and clean energy manufacturing, strengthening its position in global supply chains. As the ninth largest producer of cobalt, Morocco is also focusing on utilizing its cobalt reserves for rechargeable battery production.
To enhance the attractiveness of its mining sector to international investors, Morocco has introduced a national digital mining registry, streamlining licensing processes and minimizing bureaucratic challenges.
