Judicial Sentencing for Municipal Employee Involved in Criminal Network in Oujda

Significant Legal Action Against Corruption in Oujda

In a landmark decision, the primary criminal court responsible for financial crimes at the Appeals Court in Fes has sentenced a municipal employee from Oujda to imprisonment and fines for his involvement in a criminal network that exploited the municipal impound lot for various financial crimes. These infractions included the illicit appropriation of seized cars and motorcycles, disassembling them, forging their license plates, and selling the parts in scrap markets. The court, presided over by Judge Mohamed Lahiya, sentenced the employee, identified as Faisal D., to one year of effective imprisonment and imposed a fine of 10,000 dirhams, alongside the obligation to return confiscated property to its rightful owners. Additionally, the court mandated that he pay a total of 200,000 dirhams in damages to the municipality of Oujda, reflecting the severity of his actions.

Crackdown on Criminal Networks

The municipal employee faces charges of misappropriation and embezzlement of public funds and property due to his official position, as well as bribery and forgery of official documents. This case is part of a broader investigation involving 19 other individuals implicated in various offenses, including the embezzlement and destruction of public and private assets, and the misuse of their positions for personal gain. The regional police investigation unit in Fes, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, successfully dismantled this criminal network, resulting in the arrest of 17 individuals, including four public employees. Authorities recovered ten vehicles, 17 motorcycles, 38 dismantled car frames, and a significant quantity of spare parts and electronic equipment. The public prosecutor continues to investigate additional suspects to uncover the full extent of this network, which has turned the municipal impound lot into a hub for theft and forgery, highlighting the alarming misuse of public service roles for personal and material gains.
