Lamia Boumehdi Appointed as Jordanian Women's Football Team Coach

Lamia Boumehdi Takes the Helm of Jordan's Women's Football Team

In a significant development for Jordanian football, Moroccan coach Lamia Boumehdi has been appointed as the head coach of the Jordanian women's national football team. This announcement comes after the successful tenures of previous Moroccan coaches, Ammouta and Sellami, with the men's team, further highlighting the growing influence of Moroccan football expertise in Jordan.

Boumehdi, who has garnered a reputation for her technical skills and leadership qualities, will not only oversee the women's national team but has also been designated as the assistant director of technical development for women's football in Jordan. This dual role includes the supervision of various national women's teams, which underscores the trust placed in her abilities by the Jordanian football federation.

With an impressive coaching background, Boumehdi previously led the women's team of TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo from 2022 to 2025. Her accomplishments include guiding the DRC women's national team in 2025 and managing the football academy at the club, where she was recognized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as the best coach in 2024 after winning the African Champions League with TP Mazembe.

Her extensive experience also includes a significant role within the technical direction of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation from 2016 to 2022, where she was instrumental in implementing training programs aimed at enhancing the skills of female coaches across Morocco. Boumehdi has also had the privilege of coaching various youth national teams and served as the head coach of the Moroccan national women's team in 2020, showcasing her versatility and depth of knowledge in women's football.

Notably, since Lahoucine Ammouta's tenure, which revolutionized Jordan's men's football, the Jordanian federation has shown a preference for Moroccan coaches. His successor, Jamal Sellami, successfully led the team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, marking a historic achievement for Jordanian football. With Boumehdi at the helm of the women's team, there are high hopes that she will bring similar success and elevate the profile of women's football in Jordan.
