LEVA Hotels Expands into Morocco
LEVA Hotels is set to make a significant entry into the North African hospitality market with the upcoming launch of LEVA Casablanca, scheduled for June 1, 2026. This exciting development marks the brand's first venture into Morocco and is part of a strategic management agreement with Ismail Oukrid, COO of Ares Invest, representing the Oukrid Family Office. The hotel, which boasts 106 keys, is located in the Mers Sultan district of Casablanca and is transitioning from its former identity as the Washington Hotel.
Originally established in 1953, the property is not just a hotel; it's a historic landmark in Casablanca, renowned for its modernist architectural design, panoramic bar on the eighth floor, and its prime location nestled between the Old Medina and the city’s bustling business district. To enhance its appeal, the hotel will undergo a phased refurbishment while remaining fully operational. The renovation will introduce vibrant, art-inspired interiors and local design elements, incorporating bold accents and smart technology. Guests can expect a variety of public spaces, including lobby lounges designed for co-working, an all-day dining area, and a rooftop sky bar that promises stunning views of the city. Future plans also include the addition of a gym and spa, further enriching the guest experience.
Capitalizing on Morocco's Tourism Growth
LEVA Hotels’ entry into Casablanca aligns seamlessly with the remarkable growth trajectory of Morocco’s tourism sector. The country has seen an unprecedented influx of tourists, welcoming a record 17.4 million visitors in 2024 alone, with projections estimating this number will reach 26 million by 2030. This growth is supported by Morocco’s comprehensive tourism roadmap for 2023–2026 and its role as a co-host for the FIFA World Cup in 2030, which is expected to further boost international interest and travel to the region.
JS Anand, founder and CEO of LEVA Hotels, emphasized the strategic significance of this expansion, stating, "Expanding into Casablanca is a strategic step in LEVA Hotels’ global growth journey and a key gateway into North Africa. Casablanca offers the right mix of business demand, connectivity, and cultural energy, aligning perfectly with our focus on high-potential, evolving markets. This move reflects our strategy to enter dynamic cities early, create impact quickly, and scale with purpose." Upon its opening, LEVA Casablanca will cater to a diverse clientele, including international business travelers, leisure guests, and long-stay visitors, while also aiming to become a vibrant local destination through engaging food and beverage offerings and community-focused events.
