Lorenzo Santolino Triumphs in Morocco, Overcoming Dakar Injury with Unmatched Victory

Lorenzo Santolino Secures a Resounding Victory in Morocco

The talented rider from Salamanca, Lorenzo Santolino, has achieved an outstanding overall victory at the tenth edition of the Carta Rally held in Morocco. This remarkable event signifies his triumphant return to competitive racing following the injury that forced him to withdraw from the previous Dakar Rally. Santolino, riding for Sherco, demonstrated his exceptional skills and determination throughout the competition, ultimately dominating the field.

From the very first stage of the rally, Santolino established himself as the frontrunner, managing to open up a lead of nearly two and a half minutes over his teammate, Bradley Cox. This initial advantage only grew as the race progressed, culminating in a staggering lead of almost thirty minutes by the conclusion of the rally. Additionally, Santolino celebrated a partial victory by clinching first place in the fifth stage, further solidifying his dominance in this challenging event.

The Carta Rally showcased a diverse array of participants, featuring seasoned Dakar veterans like Santolino, Cox, and Dumontier, alongside other competitors riding rally motorcycles. The event also highlighted trail bikes, with notable participation from former world enduro champion, Botturi, adding to the competition's excitement.

This victory holds particular significance for Santolino, marking his first race of the season after his withdrawal from the last Dakar due to a severe foot injury. He entered the rally still recovering from this injury and had to retire on the third day of the Dakar after multiple falls that exacerbated his condition. With this success in Morocco, Santolino is now looking ahead to the summer, focusing on his upcoming challenges, including the Baja España and several other events on the World Championship calendar.
