Major Cannabis Seizure in Casablanca: Nearly Three Tons Discovered by Police

Significant Drug Bust Near Casablanca Airport

On June 5, 2026, the National Brigade of Judicial Police (BNPJ) made a substantial seizure of almost three tons of cannabis resin in Casablanca. This operation took place around midday, where authorities uncovered 2,960 kilograms of cannabis hidden in an abandoned vehicle near Mohammed V International Airport. The successful intervention was made possible due to precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, which guided the police in their investigation.

The operation began in the vicinity of Benslimane, where investigators monitored a vehicle suspected of transporting illegal drugs. The driver, realizing he was being followed, attempted to evade capture by driving against oncoming traffic on the highway. He ultimately abandoned the vehicle close to the airport premises, where police discovered 75 bundles of cannabis skillfully concealed within the car's interior.

Investigations to Uncover Drug Trafficking Network

The sheer volume of the intercepted drug shipment indicates a large-scale trafficking operation. With nearly three tons of carefully prepared merchandise intended for clandestine distribution, investigators suspect the involvement of a well-organized network capable of mobilizing significant logistical resources and employing rapid routes for transporting heavy cargo. The ongoing investigation, conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, aims to identify and apprehend the fleeing driver, as well as to trace the entire chain involved in this operation, from transport intermediaries to potential network coordinators. Police are diligently working to determine the intended final destination of the cannabis shipment and to uncover any accomplices who facilitated its discreet movement.
