Transformative Project for Healthcare in Agadir
The recent announcement by the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tehraoui, regarding the reconstruction of the Hassan II Regional Hospital in Agadir marks a significant milestone in enhancing healthcare services in the Souss-Massa region. This ambitious project, which entails an investment of approximately 1.1 billion dirhams, aims to establish a state-of-the-art hospital facility with the capacity to accommodate between 415 and 450 beds. The current hospital, established in 1961, has long been unable to meet the demands of modern healthcare standards, particularly concerning infrastructure and patient care quality. Therefore, this initiative is seen as a necessary upgrade to ensure that residents receive the highest level of medical service.
The new hospital will be constructed on the same site, featuring a modern design that adheres to the latest healthcare regulations. It is set to include advanced medical equipment and significant improvements in emergency services, particularly in the fields of oncology and urgent care. The project aims to significantly enhance the quality of healthcare services available to the community, reflecting a commitment to improving public health standards.
Impact on Services and Patient Care
In preparation for the commencement of construction, the hospital will close temporarily at the end of March 2026. To mitigate the impact on healthcare delivery during this period, the Ministry of Health has implemented a patient redirection system. Urgent care cases, expectant mothers in labor, and patients requiring hospitalization will be redirected to the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir. Furthermore, routine medical consultations and examinations will continue at a designated 'Day Clinic' specifically adapted for this transition, ensuring that patients have access to essential services without interruption.
The Ministry has assured the public that all necessary measures will be taken to maintain healthcare services consistently and securely throughout the reconstruction period. This includes a strategic reallocation of healthcare personnel to ensure that all facilities are adequately staffed and that patients receive continuous care. The overarching goal is to successfully realize the reconstruction of a modern hospital that meets the needs of the Souss-Massa population and contributes to overall health service improvements.
