Marrakech Authorities Strengthen Regulations for Urban Transport Sector

Marrakech Implements Stricter Regulations for Taxi Drivers

The authorities in Marrakech are intensifying their efforts to regulate the urban transport sector by enforcing strict penalties on taxi drivers who violate the rules, particularly those who refuse to activate the fare meter during passenger transport. Official data indicates that the use of the fare meter remains the only legal method for determining ride prices, ensuring transparency and safeguarding the rights of both citizens and tourists in line with existing laws.

Violations are documented through direct complaints at specialized rating centers or via written grievances submitted to the relevant provincial services before initiating verification processes and taking appropriate administrative action. Drivers who are found guilty of refusing to use the meter face the revocation of their "trust license" in accordance with established procedures. This measure aims to deter offenders and enhance the quality of services offered within the transportation sector.

In 2025 alone, a total of 418 trust licenses were revoked, and since the beginning of the current year, 50 licenses have been withdrawn. This trend reflects the ongoing commitment to tightening oversight and promoting discipline within the sector.
