The preliminary phase of the case concerning the management of the wholesale market for fruits and vegetables has concluded, as the criminal chamber of the Court of Appeal in Marrakech has rendered its verdicts against several officials and employees who were prosecuted while free. This case arose from suspicions of misappropriation of public funds and the forgery of official documents.
The court announced that the public prosecution against the former mayor of Marrakech, the late Omar Jazouli, has been dismissed due to his passing. Furthermore, one defendant, identified by the initials 'M.Z.', was acquitted of all charges against him after the court was convinced that the alleged actions had not been proven.
On the other hand, the judicial panel condemned five defendants, namely 'M.Z.', 'M.M.', 'M.K.', 'A.F.', and 'M.M.', to a prison sentence of two years, comprising one year in prison and one year suspended, along with a financial penalty of 50,000 dirhams for each individual. The court's ruling also extended to other defendants in the case, sentencing them to one year of suspended prison time and imposing a fine of 20,000 dirhams on each accused, in addition to the obligation to cover court costs when applicable.
Following the announcement of the rulings, all convicted individuals were informed of their legal right to appeal the decision within the legally stipulated timeframe.
This case has captured the attention of the local public due to its connection to the management of one of the key economic facilities in Marrakech, raising questions about the governance of public funds and adherence to the legal and administrative procedures in place at the wholesale market for fruits and vegetables.
