Marrakech Court Sentences Fish Seller for Social Media Misconduct

The primary court in Marrakech delivered a significant ruling on Tuesday evening, convicting fish seller Abdelilah Hajout, popularly known on social media as "Abdelilah the Fish Man," to five months of suspended imprisonment. In addition to this sentence, the court also imposed a five-year ban on him from publishing or engaging in any activities on social media platforms.

Hajout was prosecuted while on bail, facing serious charges that included incitement to hatred, defamation, and spreading false information. Furthermore, he was accused of sharing images of individuals without their consent, a situation that arose from complaints lodged by a former gendarme and a university professor.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a financial penalty of 1,500 dirhams on Hajout. He is also required to pay compensation to both complainants, which amounts to 40,000 dirhams for the university professor and 30,000 dirhams for the former gendarme. Additionally, a fine of 200 dirhams will be charged for each day of delay in fulfilling these obligations.
