Moroccan Dirham Experiences Decline Against Major Currencies: March 2026 Update

During the period from March 5 to March 11, 2026, the exchange rate of the Moroccan Dirham experienced a notable decline against major currencies, as reported by Bank Al-Maghrib. Specifically, the value of the Dirham fell by 0.5% against the Euro and by 0.8% against the US Dollar. The latest rates indicated that one US Dollar was equivalent to 9.42 Dirhams, while one Euro was valued at 10.80 Dirhams, highlighting a concerning trend for the Moroccan currency amidst fluctuating global markets.

In its weekly report on financial indicators, the central bank of Morocco clarified that no auction operations were conducted in the foreign exchange market during this period. This lack of activity may contribute to the observed volatility in the Dirham’s value. Furthermore, the average daily interventions by Bank Al-Maghrib in the money market reached 153.4 billion Dirhams, consisting of short-term loans of 56.4 billion Dirhams for a duration of 7 days, long-term repurchase agreements amounting to 55.1 billion Dirhams, and guaranteed loans totaling 41.9 billion Dirhams.

Meanwhile, in the interbank market, the average daily trading volume was recorded at 3.8 billion Dirhams, while the interbank rate remained stable at 2.25%. These financial dynamics are crucial for stakeholders monitoring the Moroccan economy and its currency performance.
