Protests and demonstrations continue across various Moroccan cities in support of Palestinians and in condemnation of Israeli violations, particularly the recently proposed law that allows for the execution of Palestinian prisoners. The public outcry also emphasizes the demand for an end to normalization with Israel. In this context, activists from both Islamic and leftist movements gathered in a protest at the Boukhalaf Square in Tangier, located in the northern region of Morocco. The demonstration, organized by the Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization, a non-governmental organization, called for the immediate release of all female and male prisoners and the cessation of normalization efforts with Israel.
In Beni Mellal, situated in the central part of the country, other activists participated in a protest following Friday prayers, organized by the Moroccan Body for Supporting National Causes, another non-governmental entity. This gathering denounced what they described as "provocative and normalizing practices" in light of social media posts showing Haredi Jews engaged in religious rituals next to the historic Bab Doukkala gate in Marrakech. In an interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, Mohamed Riyahi Al-Idrisi, the Secretary-General of the Moroccan Body for Supporting National Causes, stated that these events are part of a continuous effort to support the Palestinian cause, emphasizing its centrality to Moroccans and the unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people, along with a firm rejection of the law permitting the execution of prisoners in Israeli jails.
Al-Idrisi further explained that these activities, following the recent incident at Bab Doukkala, aim to send "important messages, including a complete rejection of the 'strange' rituals performed by some Zionists at Bab Doukkala, which directly provoked Moroccans and grossly violated their values and identity." He also considered these events a message to those concerned that "Moroccans of all orientations, backgrounds, and categories unite in rejecting normalization with killers and criminals under any pretext, asserting that Al-Aqsa Mosque and the prisoners are red lines. They stand against all Judaization schemes and violations that the mosque faces and against any plots being hatched, both covertly and overtly, against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, especially following the events of October 7." He called upon the international community and Arab and Islamic governments to intervene and put an end to the suffering in Gaza, including the blockade and starvation imposed by the occupying authorities.
Moroccan condemnation of the law allowing for the execution of Palestinian prisoners coincides with ongoing debates sparked by a video showcasing foreign Jews from the Haredim performing their prayers in front of the historic Bab Doukkala in Marrakech. In this regard, the National Working Group for Palestine, a non-governmental organization, described the incident as "provocative behavior that crosses all red lines" and labeled it a "dangerous precedent," urging officials to impose penalties on those who facilitated such actions. They indicated that the intent behind this was to provoke Moroccans and test their reactions, setting the stage for more serious threats posed by the malicious schemes of Zionists in the country. The National Working Group emphasized in its statement that "normalization and relations with a criminal entity pose a real threat to the security of Moroccans, and the national duty demands that officials expedite the termination of this path and end all forms of relations with the Zionist enemy."
