Moroccan Troops Arrive in Israel to Support International Force for Gaza

Arrival of Moroccan Military Personnel in Israel

Officers from the Moroccan military, whose deployment was officially announced in February, have recently arrived in Israel to assist in the formation of a new international force dedicated to Gaza, as stated by the U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace. An unnamed official from the board confirmed to AFP that this contingent touched down on June 18 at the headquarters of the International Stabilization Force (ISF) located in southern Israel. The arrival of these officers is anticipated to bolster the structural development of the force and to provide essential expertise across various sectors, particularly in policing. While the board confirmed the presence of four Moroccan officers, there was no clarification regarding the inclusion of additional personnel.

The Board of Peace indicated that the arrival of Moroccan troops represents a significant enhancement to the collective international efforts aimed at supporting the people of Gaza, stating this on the social media platform X. Morocco's commitment to deploying police and military personnel to the Gaza Strip marks a historic moment, as it becomes the first Arab nation to make such a commitment publicly.

Context of the Deployment Amid Ongoing Conflict

Earlier in January, the U.S. government unveiled the second phase of Trump's plan for Gaza, which seeks to bring a conclusive end to the ongoing conflict that was ignited by Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. However, despite these diplomatic efforts, there has been minimal actionable progress towards peace. The ongoing conflict with Iran has also imposed significant strains on Israeli society. In light of recent incidents, including devastating ballistic missile strikes in Arad and Dimona that resulted in nearly 200 injuries, many Israelis are rallying together in support of one another.

Among those affected is Shilgit, who leads an after-school program for disadvantaged youth. Standing outside her devastated center, she expressed gratitude that no children were harmed and highlighted the community's resilience in the aftermath of such tragedies. As a reporter for the Times of Israel, I am dedicated to sharing stories of hope and resilience like Shilgit’s.
