Strengthening Bilateral Relations
On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Morocco and Niger reaffirmed their shared intent to establish a partnership that serves as a benchmark for exceptional inter-African cooperation. This commitment was reiterated during the fifth session of the Joint Cooperation Commission held in Niamey, co-chaired by Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and Niger's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Nigeriens Abroad, Bakary Yaou Sangaré. The joint communiqué issued after the meeting emphasized the two nations' determination to cultivate bilateral relations grounded in active solidarity, mutual trust, and equitable sharing of benefits.
Expanding Areas of Collaboration
In addition to reiterating their resolve, the two ministers expressed a strong desire to enhance and diversify bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic and trade sectors. They also articulated a shared ambition to develop an innovative and mutually beneficial public-private partnership (PPP) model that could serve as a reference for South-South cooperation across the African continent. The fifth session provided a platform for the signing of 14 agreements and memorandums of understanding across various crucial sectors, including road and rail transport, road safety, logistics, infrastructure, commerce, industry, agriculture, land development, housing, youth initiatives, judicial cooperation, and the transfer of convicted persons, as well as academic and vocational training.
The discussions also facilitated a review of various issues of mutual interest, both bilaterally and regionally, fostering an environment of consultation and convergence of perspectives. Following the session, Ministers Bourita and Sangaré expressed satisfaction with the vigorous pace of bilateral cooperation, describing it as fruitful and mutually beneficial. They also highlighted the promising prospects for further diversification and strengthening of this partnership across all areas.
