Strengthening Aviation Ties between Morocco and the EU
On Wednesday, Abdel Samad Quiouh, Morocco's Minister of Transport and Logistics, engaged in discussions with Eddy Lega, head of aviation policy at the European Commission. The talks primarily focused on enhancing cooperation between Morocco and European Union countries in the aviation sector, particularly in the realm of carbon-free aviation initiatives. Following the discussions, which took place during the Fifth Global Symposium on Supporting Implementation in Civil Aviation held in Marrakech, Quiouh emphasized the significance of this meeting as a strategic opportunity to reaffirm partnerships across various sectors, with a particular emphasis on aviation.
Quiouh stated, "We have always succeeded in resolving our differences, and more importantly, in strengthening the relationship between the European Union and the Kingdom of Morocco, especially concerning future aviation fuels." He added that the success of Moroccan-European relations encompasses various topics, including enhancing links within the aviation industry, opening new routes, and improving the relationship regarding flight permits for airlines operating between Europe and Morocco.
Commitment to Carbon-Free Aviation
Eddy Lega, representing all EU member states, highlighted the EU's commitment to promoting free trade policies and advancing carbon-free aviation. In a press statement following his bilateral discussions with the Moroccan Minister, Lega noted Morocco's strong commitment to enhancing carbon-free aviation. He described the Kingdom's role in Africa's aviation landscape as crucial for the EU, expressing the desire of European nations to intensify and strengthen the historical ties that connect many EU member states with Africa. Lega emphasized that the EU relies on Morocco to enhance its standing throughout the African continent.
It is noteworthy that Morocco and the European Union signed a partnership agreement last year to conduct a scientific study on the production of green fuel in Morocco, with results expected to be announced in the coming months.
